  • What may be the cause of some of my receptacles, lights, and switches not working?

A GFCI outlet or circuit breaker may need to be reset. GFCI refers to a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter, used for life safety in wet/damp areas.

  • Why does my fuse blow or circuit breaker trip and how do I reset it?

For a circuit breaker, simply by cycling it to the off position and back on again. If you have an older fuse panel, a new fuse will need to be purchased and replaced with the blown one.

  • Why do my lights flicker?

LED bulbs may not be compatible with the switches.

  • Why does my recess can light cycle on and off since I put a larger wattage bulb in?

There is a thermal resistor that acts as a safety switch in the can light that prevents it from overheating. Try finding an LED bulb that fits your needs or contact Vision Electrical Services Inc to ensure the correct can light was installed for the application.

  • What should I do if a tree takes down my service mast?

Call the power company to have them disconnect the power, then contact Vision Electrical Services Inc to make the repair.

  • When my air conditioner cycles on, I notice my lights blink, is this normal?

Unfortunately, this happens fairly often and is usually linked to the large in-rush of current required to start the condenser.

  • Is it ok to hang a ceiling fan where a light is?

If the box is rated to hold a ceiling fan, this is acceptable.  If you are unsure, contact Vision Electrical Services Inc to assist with installing a new ceiling fan.

  • I have whole house surge protection installed at my house. Am I safe from lightning strikes? Also, should I use point-of-use surge plugins on my TV, stereo, computer etc.?

Surge protectors are meant to protect your sensitive electrical devices if lighting strikes near your home. It is good to be proactive and also use surge protectors at the point of equipment connection to ensure complete protection.

  • My smoke detector keeps chirping. What does this mean?

This can be a sign of a faulty smoke alarm, one that has reached its end of life, or simply a dead battery.

  • How much does it cost, and do I need to be home during a service visit?

The cost depends on the scale of work requested, but clear photos and communication prior to mobilizing our service department can maximize efficiency and help ensure the work is performed with minimal trips and the shortest amount of time.  Most service calls cost between $150 and $250.

It is not required to be home during our visit out of convenience to you, but full access to the electrical equipment and areas of work to take place will be required.  Maintaining thorough communication during the performed work is important to ensure all services are met to your satisfaction.
